Export Power Control Solutions for Solis 600VAC Inverters

This article covers the export power monitoring and control solutions for Solis 600VAC commercial grid-tied inverters sold in Canada and the US. If you are from a different region or are interested in a different product, please disregard this article as it does not apply. 

This article only applies to the following Solis inverter models:

• Solis-125K-EHV-5G-US-PLUS
• Solis-185K-EHV-5G-US-PLUS
• S6-GU250K-EHV-US-M12

There are two main solution options for 600VAC Solis inverters:

The model number for the Solis EPM is EPM3-5G-PRO and is the SKU that you will use when ordering the kit. The EPM3-5G-PRO kit comes with an Acrel ADL3000-E-B energy meter; however, this meter does not support 600V. 

The WattNode CS-WND-WR-MB energy meter must be purchased separately (Solis does not sell this meter). The WattNode meter connects to the Solis EPM instead of the Acrel meter. When purchasing the WattNode meter, be  include CTs (up to 6000A). Solis does not sell the WattNode meter, it must be procured from a third-party vendor. 

Put simply, the EPM must be purchased from a Solis-authorized vendor and then the WattNode meter + CTs must be purchased from a third-party vendor since Solis does not sell it. The WattNode meter connects to the Solis EPM.

Note: The Solis EPM firmware may need to be updated for compatibility with the Solis 600VAC models.

Option 2: FOMware SE-A4

The second available export power control solution is the FOMware SE-A4 kit. This complete kit comes with everything needed to manage export control, including the gateway, the energy meter, and the CTs. The FOMware kit must be purchased directly through FOMware or a FOMware-authorized distributor. Solis does not sell this kit.

Solis EPM3-5G-PRO  w/ Meter Installation 

• The EPM manual (link below) explains how to install the Solis EPM3-5G-PRO. Please download it and review it.

• Connect either the Acrel or WattNode meter directly to the Solis EPM, and then connect the EPM to the master Solis inverter RS485 port.

• If Solis monitoring is being used, connect a Solis logger to the EPM. 

• The EPM manual contains commissioning steps explaining how to configure it during initial startup.

Solis EPM3-5G-PRO UL and CSA Certifications

Please download the attached CSA/UL Certification document. When installed with the Solis 600VAC commercial inverters, the Solis EPM3-5G-PRO has been evaluated to meet rigorous North American safety standards. Specifically, the EPM3-5G-PRO has been tested and certified by CSA Group for compliance with the following standards:

• CSA-C22.2 No.107.1-16: Power Conversion Equipment.

• UL 1741: Inverters, Converters, Controllers and Interconnection System Equipment for Use With Distributed Energy Resources (Third Edition, Dated September 28, 2021).

Additionally, the inverters themselves maintain full regulatory compliance for interconnection. The S6-GU250K-EHV-US-M12 is compliant with UL 1741SB, UL 1998, UL1699B, IEEE 1547-2018, and California Rule 21. The Solis-125K-EHV-5G-US-PLUS and Solis-185K-EHV-5G-US-PLUS models are compliant with UL 1741, UL 1998, UL1699B, IEEE 1547, and California Rule 21 Phase II & III

UL 3141 Power Control Systems

For jurisdictions requiring certified export power control, the FOMware SE-A4 carries a standalone UL 3141 (Standard for Power Control Systems) certification. Because the SE-A4 operates as a comprehensive "System Edge Box" integrating a gateway and metering, it functions as a master PCS controller. This certification allows the FOMware kit to manage zero export and active power control across fleets of Solis commercial inverters while maintaining the strict sub-2-second control loop response times required by utilities and AHJs.

Currently, the Solis EPM3-5G-PRO does not have the UL 3141 PCS certification. If PCS is a requirement, then Option 2 FOMware SE-A4 must be used.
